About Me
Hey, I'm Mayu
Born in Japan, now foraging in the forests of Surrey, UK. My escape from the 9am-5pm — one jar at a time.
What started as a quest for accessible, affordable Japanese ingredients turned into a deep love for fermentation — koji, miso, mirin, soy sauce, sake and beyond! I'm fascinated by slow transformation — watching, tasting, sketching, painting, discovering. Nature is my lab, and every season brings something new to the table.
Mayu Makes is my own extended experiment — sharing this fun, hands-on process with curious beginners who don't know where to start, or just want to have fun!
